Obituary:

A loving mother, wife, and church member passed to God’s glory on September 7, 2008 at her home in Edgewater, FL.  Betty was born in Hannibal, Missouri on July 9, 1932, the daughter of Robert and Naomi Smith who preceded her to heaven.  She attended Chillicothe Business College where she majored in secretarial science.  In addition to raising two children, Mary Elizabeth Achenbach of the home and David E. Overton, Kissimmee, FL, Betty worked full and part time in a wide variety of secretarial and administrative jobs over the years.  Betty met her future husband, Robert E. Overton in college and they were married for 57 years.  They moved several times due to job transfers and lived in Kansas City, MO, Ft. Meyers, FL, Leawood, KS and Orlando, FL.  They retired to Edgewater, FL in August, 1993 and joined Edgewater United Methodist Church shortly thereafter. She was very active in the church and enjoyed participating in United Methodist Women activities.  She served as president of the organization and coordinated their greeting card recycling program which generated funds for various mission projects.  Betty is survived by her children and two grandchildren, Shannon L. Chaney, Tampa, FL and Robert D. Overton, Kissimmee, FL.   In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her brother, James A. Smith, Santa Barbara, CA, her nephew, Douglas D. Smith, Piedmont, CA, two great nieces and many cousins in the Hannibal and Monroe City, MO area.

“Celebration of Life” service will be 10:30 AM at Edgewater United Methodist Church 200 North Ridgewood Avenue Edgewater, FL 32132 on September 13, 2008
