Dear Diane:

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for H.R. 1322, the Emergency Retiree Health Benefits Protection Act. It was good to hear from you and I appreciate this opportunity to respond.

Like you, I believe companies should honor their commitment to employees by maintaining promised retirement benefits. Unfortunately, many Americans are forced to dip into their savings in order to supplement their diminished employer-based health plan. H.R. 1322 would attempt to remedy this situation by prohibiting group health plans from making post-retirement reductions of retiree health benefits. Please know that I will keep your views in mind should this legislation reach the Floor of the House of Representatives for debate.

Thank you again for contacting me on this important issue, and I hope you will not hesitate to let me know if I can be of further assistance on this or any other federal matter.

With my regards and best wishes, I remain

                                                                        Sincerely,

                                                                        John L. Mica

                                                                        Member of Congress
